Frequently Asked Questions & Other Things to Know When Visiting

Why stay here? There are many other B&Bs in Tulum...

Rancho Verde is a gated, conscious community with real character, a place where people actually live. Our rescue animals roam freely, the whole ranch runs zero-waste, and wellness is part of everyday life here. You stay on the peaceful, less touristy side of Tulum, away from the busy center yet only a five-minute drive from it, with cenotes and lagoons close by and the airport about 25 minutes away.

Do I need a visa to travel to Mexico?

Most likely not. Citizens of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, Japan and many other countries can visit Mexico as tourists without a visa for up to 180 days. Holders of a valid US, Canadian, UK, Japanese or Schengen visa, or a US permanent resident card, are usually exempt too. You need a passport that stays valid for your whole stay (we recommend at least six months), and your entry is recorded digitally by immigration (the FMM tourist permit) on arrival. Rules depend on your nationality and can change, so please check with the Mexican embassy or consulate in your country before booking your flight.

Do I need any vaccinations before going to Mexico?

Mexico does not require any vaccination for entry. Health authorities do advise every traveler to be up to date on routine vaccines, including measles (MMR), given the measles cases reported in Mexico in 2025 and 2026, and often recommend hepatitis A as well. Please check with your doctor or a travel clinic at least four weeks before you travel.

Anything else I need to take into account before traveling?

Quintana Roo, the state Tulum is in, charges foreign visitors a small mandatory tourist fee called Visitax (about 285 Mexican pesos, roughly 15 USD per person in 2026). Pay it only on the official site, visitax.gob.mx, and keep the QR code on your phone, as it is checked at Cancun airport before departure. Bring light, breathable clothing, swimwear, comfortable shoes, a reusable water bottle, reef-safe sunscreen and natural insect repellent. Tap water is not drinkable in Mexico; we provide filtered water during your stay. Some pesos in cash are handy for small purchases and tips. Our welcome letter and house guidelines are just below.

Is anything covered by insurance?

Your safety and wellbeing come first in everything we do. Rancho Verde is a private, gated community, cared for by our well-trained, trusted team, who know the ranch inside out. Please tell us openly about anything we should know, so we can support you well. Please note that your stay and any activities you join are at your own risk, and that your booking does not include insurance of any kind. We strongly recommend that you take out personal travel insurance that covers medical care and cancellation. For full details, please read our Terms & Conditions.

Welcome letter & house guidelines

1. Respect & Community

We live and learn as one community. Treat yourself, others, and the land with gratitude, patience, kindness, consent, and presence. Silence and respect during potential sessions keep the space sacred for all.

2. Nature, Safety & Conduct

Help us preserve this zero-waste sanctuary: separate recycling, keep the space clean, and respect all beings. No alcohol, smoking, drugs, or animal products on the premises. Always shower before using the pool.

3. Health & Responsibility

All activities are voluntary and at your own discretion and risk. We encourage stepping out of your comfort zone, but never beyond what feels safe to you. Inform our team of any medical conditions.

4. Liability & Mutual Indemnification

Participation involves natural risks during physical, aquatic, and ceremonial activities. You agree to release and mutually indemnify Liefs Retreats, Rancho Verde, and facilitators from claims, except in cases of gross negligence.

5. Privacy & Media

In case you are joining one of our retreats, activities or wellness events, please avoid personal photography or phone use during shared sessions to stay fully present. You grant permission for respectful use of retreat content and we invite you to share a short testimonial at the end.
